A recipe for fried clams!

Here is a recipe for fried clams:

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart oil, for frying
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 pounds fresh clams, shucked and drained
  • Tartar sauce or lemon wedges, for serving (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large, heavy pot to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornmeal, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a separate shallow dish, beat the egg and milk together.
  4. Dip the clams into the egg mixture, then coat them in the flour mixture.
  5. Carefully add the clams to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  6. Remove the clams from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve the fried clams hot, with tartar sauce or lemon wedges on the side if desired.

Note: If you prefer, you can also bread the clams by dipping them in the egg mixture and then the flour mixture, then dipping them back in the egg mixture and finally the flour mixture again before frying. This creates a thicker, crispier breading.
